A table, like a room, needs a hierarchy to come alive: something has to lead, and everything else is there to enhance it. Without it, two things competing for attention will flatten each other, and the table reads as a set of nice objects instead of a whole. Table setting is part instinct and part science, but the equation gets easier when the piece at the helm is exquisite. For this table, that was Dior's Cruise collection, its porcelain merging art and table service.

The Partnership

A longtime presence at Dior's Cruise shows and a genuine admirer of the house, Kelly was invited to build a table around a collection she already knew well. The best partnerships tend to grow this way, out of real appreciation for craft and a shared point of view, long before any campaign exists.

Kelly's Table

Everything on the table answered to the china. Kelly set the hand-painted Limoges from Dior's Cruise collection against a dark table, the candlesticks aglow with light just catching the glaze. The scene evoked the feeling of a Thanksgiving dinner already three courses in; a little bit lived in with candles burned down low.

I don't set a table like everything on it matters equally, because it doesn't. Equal isn't interesting. Something has to anchor the table.
