Thought Leadership

MasterClass is the subscription platform built around learning directly from the best in a field, cooking from Gordon Ramsay, writing from Margaret Atwood, business strategy from people who've actually built the companies they're teaching about. Before Kelly Wearstler, it had never taught interior design, which meant there was no format to copy, no other designer's seventeen lessons to study first. She was the one they built the course around, which meant the shape of it had to come from her point of view rather than borrowed from anyone else's. MasterClass had already featured a run of names Wearstler considered her own creative heroes before they approached her, which made the invitation land less like a business opportuntity and more like induction into a group she already admired.

The Curriculum

Taste has a reputation for being the one thing that can't actually be taught, more felt than explained, closer to instinct than skill. Wearstler's MasterClass quietly argues otherwise. Seventeen lessons, just over two hours total, structured less like a syllabus and more like a walk through her actual process, the same instincts that run a sixty-person studio, just slowed down enough to say out loud: how to read a room's proportions before a single swatch enters the conversation, how light and color decide what a space is even capable of becoming, how to make a room feel larger without moving a single wall, how to curate a collection of objects instead of merely accumulating them, and how to let a room tell a story rather than simply display one. Nothing here assumes you've trained for this. Nothing here insists on a house style. What it teaches instead is a way of deciding, which is a harder thing to put into words than most people expect.

I wanted to create a curriculum that empowers MasterClass members to take design risks and approach the creative process with curiosity and passion.
