The Grotto is an intimate library imagined as the home of a well-traveled Santa Monica couple with a love of books, art, and design. An art collection assembled over three years mingles with vintage and contemporary pieces, while grasscloth wall coverings and white oak millwork lend warmth and depth to the interior.
The lower ceiling height, shaped by mechanical elements behind the walls, became an opportunity to create a more enveloping space within the hotel. At the entrance, patinated cypress timber is paired with the organic form of Chris Wolston’s Tanza Plant Chair, setting the tone for the room beyond.
