Austin Proper draws from the city’s Craftsman heritage and creative spirit, bringing warmth and a sense of history to the hotel’s contemporary architecture. White oak, stained glass, leather, and locally sourced stone establish a natural material language, while vintage furnishings, collected art, and unexpected pattern bring together influences from different eras and origins. The result reflects Austin itself: grounded in craft, yet informal and distinctly modern.
The lobby brings Austin’s local character into conversation with a global mix of design and craft. Locally sourced cypress millwork and stone are layered with vintage finds, contemporary pieces, and a monumental brass ceiling fixture by Massimiliano Locatelli. At its center, a white oak staircase inspired by the city’s Craftsman homes doubles as a display for vintage and contemporary ceramics collected throughout the Austin area. Pierre Chareau re-edition sconces and a vintage needlepoint bring modern design into contrast with the city’s more homespun traditions.
Across Austin Proper, the restaurants and bars each take on a distinct identity while remaining connected through a shared emphasis on craft, material, and collected design. From the Mediterranean influences of Peacock and the intimate atmosphere of Goldie’s to the artful Quill Room and immersive dining experience of Kappo Kappo, vintage furnishings mingle with custom commissions, expressive materials, and works by local artists and makers. Together, the spaces reflect Austin’s creative spirit while offering different settings for dining, gathering, and lingering throughout the day.
The suites bring together natural materials, vintage furnishings, and custom pieces with an emphasis on craft. Rich textiles and pattern soften the contemporary architecture, creating spaces that feel considered, comfortable, and distinctly connected to Austin.
