For the Compartés Los Angeles shop, the interiors draw from the chocolate shops of the early twentieth century, reinterpreting their sense of craft and tradition through a California lens. Within the petite 430-square-foot space, custom elements made locally in Los Angeles bring together patinated copper, honed and tumbled marble, brass, glass, onyx, ebonized wood, and plaster. A deep emerald palette creates a rich backdrop for the chocolates and the materials that surround them.
Custom ceramic bowls by Morgan Peck and hand-blown glass domes by Anna Karlin elevate the presentation of the chocolate, while an ebonized, wire-brushed wood wall takes its geometric composition from the work of Louise Nevelson. Concealed within it, a secret door leads to the working space beyond, where chocolatiers finish handmade confections and pour frozen hot chocolate from brass faucets, connecting the craft of making with the experience of the shop.
