Georg Jensen founded his silversmithing house in Copenhagen in 1904, arriving at the craft through sculpture. He had trained to shape bodies and faces before he ever picked up silver. That background showed in everything that followed. He spent his career choosing organic forms drawn from nature over the ornament-heavy conventions of the trade, and by the time he died in 1935, the New York Herald Tribune was calling him the greatest silversmith of the last three hundred years. The house has held to that idea for more than a century: nature translated into hard material.

The Partnership

Wearstler has always treated nature as working material. Water, wind, and the specific light of the California coast all find their way into an object. Metal is an unexpected place for that, since metal holds still. Georg Jensen had already spent a century proving metal can move, working from the same belief Wearstler does, a century earlier.

In 2019, the Danish silversmith invited her to test that shared instinct against a material of her own. Frequency, a six-piece collection, set out to show stainless steel could hold the same movement as the ocean it was modeled on. The idea already felt like hers from the start.

The Partnership

Frequency runs on a single motif — an undulating steel ribbon — repeated across a statement vase, two hurricanes with hand-blown glass candle inserts, two display bowls, and a centerpiece built to anchor a table indoors or out. The steel catches light the way water does, in movement rather than a flat gleam, with folds engineered to read as motion.

There is an energy in the silhouettes, a vibrant movement that comes to life through the beautiful folds in the steel. Each design is like a sculptural conductor of this living energy.
