Mesa is a textile homage to the rugged beauty of plateaus: its patterns and textures built around the natural striations and geological history of these landforms. The palette stays earthbound and the weave carries real structural weight, with a density built to last. The geometric shapes pick up the same contours a mesa holds at close range. The collection is engineered to live both indoors and out, so the pattern and the performance fiber were developed together. The result is a durable, weather-ready cloth that still reads as considered. The palette stays in earthen neutrals throughout, so the fabric reads as an extension of a landscape.
Creative Process
Mesa pairs a pattern complex enough to read as considered with yarns tough enough for full sun and weather. The striations and stacked forms come from the weave itself, texture rather than a surface print. It is built as a performance fabric, so the same pattern that looks refined on a sofa holds up on a porch.
Creative Direction
Mesa's campaign was shot on location at Santa Monica Proper, one of Wearstler's own hotel projects. Shooting outdoors in real California light let the fabric's plateau-inspired texture and earthen palette show up somewhere it was made to live.
Mesa comes from watching how slowly a landscape actually changes. I wanted a fabric that could hold that same quiet, unhurried quality, indoors or out.
